‘Windscreen Dream’ single out now!

My brand-new single Windscreen Dream is now out in the world and your listening ears, and I’d really love to hear what you think! This free-wheeling country rock road trip is an invitation to jump in the car with me and take an immersive journey from nostalgic memory to the hope of a new beginning with no regrets; bound for the sun with your aviators on, leaving the one who did you wrong eating your dust as you move on.

I originally wrote Windscreen Dream as a regular participant of I Heart Songwriting Club, just one of 150 new songs I’ve written in this vibrant online creative community over the past three years. I also recently completed their first ever Intensive Songwriting Course over 10 weeks amongst a wonderfully talented group of songwriting peers and it was such a fantastic, inspiring learning experience that I even started writing on piano for the first time and explored some finger-picking techniques on guitar.

Windscreen Dream was always meant to be a country song in my mind from the very first demo draft that I recorded for I Heart. Getting behind the wheel and driving formed as my metaphor for looking forward and not back at the remains of something or someone that hasn’t worked out, heading off into the sunset and a brand-new start with no regrets. And of course, as a regional Queenslander, my lyrical road had to be a dusty one!

This is the debut single from my third (and first UK) studio project; all arranged, recorded, and engineered under the magic hands of Huey Dowling at Unit 7 Studio in South West Scotland and mastered by the legend that is Ben Findlay (Real World, Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant, Jeff Beck). Huey also played slide, bass, acoustic and electric guitars on the track.

Huey has such a fantastic global network of musicians he can tap into for capturing a particular instrument, sound or style. For this track, we worked with Derek Urquhart on drums, Marc Clement on Hammond B3 grand piano, and Graham Rodger on steel pedal and mandolin. It’s been an absolute delight to collaborate with these talented artists for the first time.

My new partnership with Unit 7 Studio signals an empowered shift from my 2024 blues-rock EP Standing on the Fringe of Rooms towards a fresh new sound that flows across genres, from country pop and rock, to soul and even a bit of reggae. I’m so excited and I can’t wait for you to hear ALL of this beauty!

I’m also extremely grateful to Josh Hild, a wonderful photographer based in Seattle in the USA, who gave me permission to use his stunning shot for the single’s cover art! I’m incredibly humbled that he thought it super cool that I wanted to use it for my music release.
